Published on 12 May 2020

COVID-19 is an infection transmitted by the new coronavirus SARS-coV-2, which is transmitted by respiratory droplets (larger than 5 microns) expelled by infected persons when coughing or talking, capable of reaching distances of up to 2 metres. The virus has been detected in nasopharyngeal secretions, including saliva. The gateway to the host is the mucous membranes of the face (mouth, nose and eyes) either directly or indirectly when the contaminated hand or fomites come into contact with the mucous membranes of the mouth, nose or eyes.
