External curricular internships

The purpose of the External Placement is to facilitate the acquisition of those competences related to the effective exercise of the profession, in accordance with the content determined in the syllabus, integrating students into the real world of work linked to the speciality of the corresponding higher artistic education.

The External Placements will consist of a training plan to be carried out in collaborating entities: companies, studios, or other public and private institutions, where students will be able to observe and carry out the functions related to the different jobs in their profession.

During the External Placement, the relationship between the student and the collaborating entity, as a consequence of this activity, shall not be of an employment or civil servant legal nature. The entities shall not be obliged to remunerate the student for the training activity or for the results that may derive from it.

In general, External Placements will be carried out in entities whose activities are related to the corresponding Higher Artistic Studies and which preferably carry out their activity in the Community of Aragon.

External Work Placements may also be carried out in entities located in localities belonging to another autonomous community, or even in foreign entities. In these cases, they must be carried out in June, July and August.

If they are carried out within Europe, they can be processed through the Erasmus+ programme.

The duration of the external placements is established in relation to the 6 ECTS credits included in the Syllabus. The number of hours to be carried out in the host entity is 150 hours in the GRADUATE studies, equivalent to 5 ECTS (30 hours for each credit) and 125 hours in the MASTER studies, equivalent to 5 ECTS (25 hours for each credit); and the remaining 1 ECTS is for the completion of the required documentation and the Final Report of the External Placement.

In order to be eligible for an Erasmus grant, the minimum duration of the placement must be 2 months. The additional hours will be recognised as elective credits up to a maximum of 6 ECTS.

In general, the student's timetable at the collaborating institution will be similar to the ordinary working day of the institution. Any temporary interruption in the external placement, due to "force majeure", which makes it necessary to modify and/or extend the period of the placement, shall be reported to the management of the educational centre. The latter shall facilitate the completion of the placement in the same academic year, if possible, or in the period established between the student, the educational centre and the collaborating entity.

External placements may be carried out:

1.At the student's proposal.

Students may submit individual proposals for work placements in companies. The Coordinator of the corresponding specialisation or that of the master's degree, together with the Head of External Relations, will assess the viability of the proposal submitted. To do so, the student must provide the External Placement Coordinator with the Letter of Acceptance with the details of the company and contact person.

2.As proposed by ESDA.

The External Placement Coordinator, together with the Head of External Relations, after a process of searching for companies and institutions - by which a pool of collaborating entities is created - awards the companies to the students in a way that best suits their professional and personal profile.

Direct offers of internships made to the centre by collaborating entities.
The Coordinator of the corresponding speciality or that of the master's degree together with the Head of External Relations will assess the viability of the proposals submitted and the centre will offer them to the students.

Offering of places within the framework of agreements signed by the Centre or by the Department of Education, University, Culture and Sport.

For the development of the External Placement, the Coordinator will draw up a Training Plan for each of the students on placement, signed by the student, the representative of the collaborating host entity and the ESDA representative.

The collaborating entity will appoint a tutor who will be responsible for the student and will be in charge of their integration into the company, learning and performance of the student. For its part, ESDA will also appoint an External Placement tutor for each student, who will be responsible for the attention, monitoring and development of the training programme of the placement. A weekly tutoring period will be designated to deal with the different circumstances that may arise during the internship. The student must keep a monitoring and control document of the hours and activities carried out during the External Placement, which will require the approval of both the tutor of the host entity and the ESDA tutor.

The student will write a FINAL REPORT that will be evaluated by the coordinator of the corresponding speciality or of the Master's degree, as appropriate.

The final assessment will be carried out by the coordinator of the corresponding specialisation or of the Master's degree, as appropriate, or by the External Placement Coordinator and the Head of External Relations.

Final evaluation

On an annual basis, the Department responsible for education takes out a collective accident insurance policy and a civil liability insurance policy to cover damages caused to third parties during the External Work Placement, of which the collaborating entities are informed through the Training Plan signed between the parties.
