Working Social Design: Espacio Visiones and ESDA (part 1)

Published on 23 January 2019

Teaching in Social Design at ESDA is approached through immersive work so that our students develop a more realistic and responsible design (Victor Papanek, "Design for the real world, 1971). It is important for designers to be aware that the work they do is not neutral, and that, because it manifests itself in the public space, it is political (Hannah Arendt "...").Was ist Politik ? ", 1993). That is why at ESDA we take this approach to education in Social Design, working with different vulnerable or excluded groups.

In this case, the artists of the Espacio Visiones (Rey Ardid) and the students of the ESDA have started the work with, among other things, a series of reciprocal visits to both centres. These photographs illustrate this. In the double context of the subject of Photography Applied to DG I and II, and the apprenticeship in Social Design, since the beginning of the academic year, this experience has been developed as a journey towards normalisation, inclusion and the de-stigmatisation of mental illness. In March, an exhibition will disembark at ESDA to show the results of this joint work.
