Summary ESDA SOCIAL DESIGN DAYS-DESIS: photos and videos

Published on 26 May 2022

During the second week of May 2022, the ESDA SOCIAL DESIGN DAYS took place for the first time at the Escuela Superior de Diseño de Aragón.

These days have been celebrated the recently inaugurated incorporation to the international network DESIS, of laboratories located in Design schools where the intervention and research in Design for Social Innovation, founded by Ezio Manzini, is practised.

For this purpose, ESDA has had three exceptional guest lecturers:
Teresa Franqueira, DESIS International Coordinator, University of Aveiro in Portugal,
Adam Thorpe of the Design Against Crime Office at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, and
Francesco Mazzarella, from the Centre for Sustainable Fashion at the London College of Fashion, also part of the UAL.

Among the programmed events there was a "revisit" to the Fashion Revolution with an Upcycling workshop by Dasein Hub and a talk by Cris B. Also, an exhibition in which the 7 most important projects developed at ESDA in Social Design and Social Innovation were presented. After presenting the collaborative community map of the last project, "BUILDING BRIDGES ESDA-Gancho" a visit was made to some of the places in this neighbourhood, to whose neighbours ESDA tries to bring Design for Social Innovation.

We also had three very interesting conferences given by the three guest lecturers, a workshop and a round table, in which the conclusions of what we had reflected on and learnt during these days were gathered. Thanks to all of you who made it possible.

During the second week in May, 2022, the Aragoneese Superior School of Design has hosted the ESDA SOCIAL DESIGN DAYS, for the first time.

It has been the perfect occasion to celebrate that ESDA has just turn to be a DESIS Network member. DESIS is an international network of laboratories situated in Universities and Schools of Design all around the world, founded by Ezio Manzini.

Luckily, we have had with us three exceptional invited teachers:
Teresa Franqueira, International Coordinator of DESIS, from University of Aveiro in Portugal,
Adam Thorpe, from the Design Against Crime Office at Central Saint Martins, University of Arts London (UAL) and
Francesco Mazzarella, from the Centre for Sustainable Fashion at the London College of Fashion, also UAL.

Those days, there was a showcase of the 7 most important projects of Social Design and Social Innovation developed at the ESDA. Then the students showed to our guests the collaborative communitarian map they made in collaboration with the quarter on the other side of the river, and we all went for a guided visit to the places where the project BUILDING BRIDGES ESDA-Gancho are taking place. This project aims to be our definite jump from Social Design to Design for Social Innovation.

As you can see in the video, we also had three exceptional talks delivered by our special guests, a workshop and a round-table, were we reflected on all the things learned these amazing days. Thank You. We will never forget you.
