The Zaragoza-based studio Vamos Estudio, co-founded by alumnus David Gamarra, makes history with a Gold at the Pentawards, the most prestigious international packaging design awards.
They are the only Aragonese designers to win a Gold Award in these design Oscars and they have achieved it among more than 2000 participants thanks to the packaging of the wine "Valderiz del alba".
The winners of the Pentawards, the world's leading international packaging design awards, were announced at a Gala Ceremony at London's iconic Royal Opera House on 23 September. Since its launch in 2007, the Pentawards have received more than 20,000 entries from over 64 countries and the winners have showcased their most innovative, inspiring and powerful designs from around the world. This year's 2022 edition has seen more than 2,000 entries ready to showcase their best creations to compete for this important award.
David Gamarra, an alumnus of the school with more than fifteen years of experience in the sector, together with his partner Eduardo Miravalles are the creators of this design and communication studio, with which they already boast several awards in their history, such as the prestigious national Laus de Oro award. But, not content with that, they have won one of the Pentaward Gold Awards, the Oscar of design, and they have done so thanks to the Ribera del Duero wine bottle, "Valderiz al alba" (Valderiz at dawn).
It shows the famous photograph by Ramón Masats of a woman whitewashing a wall, an element from which the image of this limited edition wine is constructed, which aims to introduce the consumer to the labour of working in the fields. On opening it, a hand-painted bottle makes an allegory of the memory, care and effort involved in the ageing of this beverage, which they extol with their slogan "The work of the fields, by hand, from dawn and without rest".
David and Eduardo, still on cloud nine, go beyond their own recognition. For Gamarra, this award is not only a source of pride for them, but also "for the whole of Aragonese design, as in the end such recognition is a way of highlighting the talent that exists in this land".
At Vamos Estudio they specialise in institutional and corporate communication, as well as new technologies, although what led them to create the Pentaward gold-winning design is their extensive experience in the world of wine, as they work for several Designations of Origin with the aim of promoting the wines of Aragon all over the world.
